County Commission should strike a proposed budget cut to Parrott’s Chapel Community Fire Department – or cede the remote area on Douglas Lake to next-door Sevier County. That was the suggestion of Commissioner Terry Dockery during Monday night’s work session. He also said he will move at next Thursday’s voting meeting to add $15,000 to funding for the Jefferson City Fire Department. Dockery is also asking for an ad hoc committee to reexamine fire department district boundary lines. Pressured on all sides, budget committee finalized a recommendation last month that docks the smallest volunteer fire department to help shore up funding in three larger ones.
