There has been no word on the cause of a fire that destroyed valuable athletic gear inside a locked metal storage container late Saturday afternoon outside Lanier High School, but arson investigators believe they may have a possible suspect. “They did identify an 11-year-old boy who may have been at the scene, not an SAISD student,” said Leslie Price, spokeswoman for the San Antonio Independent School District. However, Price pointed out there’s been no arrest pending more interviews and further analysis of the crime scene. Christian Bove, spokesman for the San Antonio Fire Department, said because of the extent of the damage, it is possible he may face felony criminal mischief charges. “That would be sad,” said Todd Howey, SAISD athletic director. “I would hate to know a kid took something away from other kids.” Howey said the school’s soccer and track and field programs may have to start over before next spring. He said for example, boys varsity and JV soccer uniforms were destroyed.
