At least two people were sent to the hospital and several pets died after a fire broke out inside an Irving home on Tuesday night. Investigators said firefighters got the call about flames and smoke around 6:50 p.m. at the home located at 2222 Woodoak Drive. Irving fire said six people were inside the home and 20-to-30 pets were also in need of rescue. The home contained several cats and dogs. Firefighters reported at least three of the cats died and at least one of the dogs did not survive. Investigators expect the numbers of pet fatalities to rise as they continue to sift through the home. One neighbor who noticed the smoke and flames decided to start knocking on doors while her husband called 911. “Well if that’s me, if that was my house I would expect someone to do the same thing for me. And we all live in the same city, we’re all neighbors whether you know them or not. You don’t want anybody to get hurt or lose their life,” said Gloria Martin, who lives a few houses down from the fire.
