The Amarillo community showed its support for first responders on Sunday with two events: a cookout and a church service. At the cookout, there were firefighters, police officers and members of the community who wanted to show support. People at the event said that they want to stop the hate and spread love to these people who risk their lives for the community instead. In the last few months, several people have been showing first responders that they have their backs in Amarillo, through various events. Scott Grubitz started standing in the streets, holding signs and showing law enforement that he cares. He decided, alone with others, to throw a cookout to show even more support. Also, it was a chance for the community to interact with the first responders. "We're hoping that through people coming their kids learn early that these police officers and first responders are the real heroes that they're supposed to be," said Grubitz. "We just want to show support for them and we're trying to rally support through the community to bring peace out here, because it seems like there's a lot of hate for those guys."
