Traffic is back to normal between Panther Junction and Rio Grande Village.
For safety reasons, stopping along the road is still not allowed.
There will be law enforcement on scene to make sure travel goes smoothly.
A new estimate is reporting that 1,537 acres were burned.
At first, the fire was within a half mile of Panther Junction and moving north.
The fire is no longer burning on the north side of road.
Authorities say Panther Junction headquarters area and community are secure with about 50 people are still working.
Those workers include National Park Service firefighters, EMT’s, crews from Big Bend, “Los Diablos” from Mexico and a helicopter crew.
All firefighters are using minimum action suppression tactics.
This is to disturb the park's natural and cultural resources as little as possible.
Officials say there are resources over 2000 years old in or near the fire's boundaries.
