A fire damaged a building that housed a paint booth at C&M Trailers when flames broke out Thursday evening. Firefighters were dispatched at about 5:20 p.m. to the business located in the 7500 block of U.S. Highway 287.
“Well, actually, the call came in as a grass fire here on 287. We responded with an engine and a brush truck and it was updated as a structure fire at C&M Trailers. The guys got back here and there was a fire that was pretty well-involved in the back side. The paint booth appears to be where it started,” Ennis Fire Chief Jeff Aycock said. “There were a lot of tires stacked in storage for the trailers. So we had a lot of tires involved. A little bit of wood for the floor decking was involved. It was metal building. The structure was starting to collapse on the backside.”
Aycock said firefighters fought the fire defensively because of the building's deteriorating conditions and they were able to bring the fire under control in 40 minutes.
Once the fire was out, firefighters worked to treat hot spots and separated tires from debris. No workers were inside the building at time of the fire. No injuries were reported.
Aycock said the also county called out Garrett Rural Fire Department who saw the heavy smoke coming from the structure.
Members of the Waxahachie Fire Department were also called out the scene and filled in at one of Ennis’fire stations to handle incoming emergency calls while crews were out. The cause of the fire has not been determined and is under investigation by the Ennis Fire Department.
