Saturday, many across the U.S. celebrated national armed forces day. In Grimes County, they had an extra reason to celebrate. The day marked their first ever "First Responders Day." Flashing lights, police sirens, and emergency vehicles lined historic downtown Navasota to celebrate the occasion.
The display captured the eyes of Cheryl Ellis and her two small children, 7-year-old Spencer and 4-year-old Hadley.
"It gives them a really good look at, you know, first responders and what they do,” said Ellis.
Chief Justin Leeth of the Navasota Police Department organized the event, which brought together more than two dozen agencies. Collectively, they got to show off their gear and interact with the community they serve.
"We like to kid and give each other a hard time, and heckle each other, but at the end of the day we are there to help each other, and this really showcases that comradely,” said Leeth.
CHI St. Joseph's air med crew helped children climb on board their helicopter. Texas Rangers gave tours of their armored personnel carrier.
