On Monday, the Potter County Commissioners Court approved the request for a new Bushland Fire Station. The original building was built in 1974 and appears to be very dated. Potter County Chief Richard Lake said the current building can not be renovated. "Number one, it's too small and it's too old to do any modifications to or to really fix anything and because of its location its not strategically placed within the community to be able to respond quickly," said Chief Lake. Captain Mike Kendrick has been working at the Bushland Station for 27 years and says a move is necessary because the area is seeing tremendous growth. "The five year projections are an additional 1,600 homes. We've out grown this station, I mean its time for us to just expand," said Captain Kendrick.
