Working as a firefighter is already a challenging job, but recent statistics indicate that it can also make you more susceptible to cancer.
"Currently, firefighters are battling cancer as a whole because firefighters are 10 percent more likely to have a cancer diagnosis then the general population," Joseph Wallace, president of Last Line of Cancer Defense, said. "It's just through the nature of the job."
A group of organizations are teaming up to raise awareness for firefighter occupational cancer and donate decontamination products to a volunteer or small municipal fire department each month.
"It's important to get these products to firefighters, especially rural firefighters, because they have limited means and financial restraints to order these things," Wallace said.
