Panola County Sheriff Kevin Lake prays that no more names will be added to the local Peace Officers Memorial monument or to similar monuments nationwide.
That prayer won’t go answered, he told a small crowd Tuesday.
“We know that’s just not possible as long as such brave men and women stand and fight for what’s right,” Lake said. “So let’s take time today to reflect on all those who have given their all, those who have sacrificed their life, not only their time, but their lives, that have been taken from their families. Let’s remember them because sacrifice is worth little if remembrance does not follow.”
Lake spoke to his fellow officers and Panola County residents at the 2018 Peace Officers Memorial ceremony, held Tuesday morning at Hawthorn Funeral Home.
