Sugar Land officials have tapped a 25-year veteran of the fire department to be the agency's new chief when the current one retires in January. Battalion Chief Doug Boeker was promoted to the chief's position by Assistant City Manager Doug Brinkley, according to a news release issued by the city. He will take over for Fire Chief Juan Adame, who will retire in January 2019. After joining the fire department in 1992, Boeker took on many jobs including firefighter, lieutenant and battalion chief. He has helped out with youth outreach programs and also assisted in creating the Sugar Land Fired Up 5K, which brings out hundreds of runners to Fire Station 5. In addition to working at the fire department, Boeker served as the general manager of Intercare Health Services and as the fire commissioner for the Harris-Fort Bend Emergency Services District No. 100, according to the news release.
