It’s been a little over a week since Mike Degering was traveling to the Fallen Firefighter Memorial in Colorado Springs when his motorcycle crashed.
“I was traveling to Colorado Springs to surprise Mike,” Angela Degering, Michael’s wife said. “We were going to be meeting up there and some of the folks that I met in New Mexico notified me that he had been in a severe accident.”
Her husband of nearly 17 years left in critical condition. “Disbelief, I just wanted to get to him but I was still 6 hours away,” said Angela.
Michael remains in St. Mary's hospital in Grand Junction, 850 miles away from many who love him
“Mike is a really great firefighter. one of those guys that’s reliable, very good to work with, his guys enjoy working about him,” Cande Flores, Abilene Fire Chief said.
