A Greenwood volunteer firefighter has been found guilty of arson. Alan Alton Self, 24, pleaded guilty of setting intentional fires back on Dec. 2017 and March 2018. He set fire to his own fire station on two separate instances, a local Greenwood business, Trinity Pallets, three separate times, and ended his spree by burning down the Valley View Baptist Church in Greenwood. Self was sentenced to 18 years of confinement in the Institutional Division of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for the fire at the church and 10 years of confinement for each of the other eight fires. All of these sentences will run concurrently, and the defendant must serve at least one quarter of the sentences before the possibility of parole. The amount of damage that Self caused during these nine separate fires totaled over $2,000,000.
