A diehard Harley-Davidson rider, a single mother of five and “a huge animal lover” is an award-winning firefighter/EMT in the Katy Fire Department.
Katy Fire Chief Russell Wilson selected firefighter/EMT Tana Vallone for his Fire Chief’s Award “in recognition of your exemplary service to the Katy Fire Department.”
Vallone, who lives near Columbus, started as an emergency medical technician about nine years ago and about five years ago, she also became a firefighter as the department began a cross-training program. She was in her 40s when she studied to become a firefighter. This is not just a job for her, it’s a career.
“I just love what I do,” said Vallone. “I love to help people.”
Her interest in the medical field began after her first child, who’s now 27, was born with Down syndrome.
