VIDEO: A single woman in her 50s and her pet dog died Friday night of a house-fire in Sunset City. Her death is the first fire related fatality since the transition away from the volunteer Sunset Fire Department. Police believe the fire began in her bedroom. Mike Gorder lives a few doors down from the home and says the woman rented the home and moved in recently. He said, "If Sunset would have had their own department, maybe it would have saved a life, maybe it wouldn't have, nobody knows for sure." In July, the city council turned fire services over to the North Davis Fire District, a decision many disagree with on the basis of cost and effectiveness.
