An elderly man died early Saturday morning in a house fire and his wife was treated at a hospital, Sevier County authorities said.
Owen Kay Reynolds, 85, was unable to escape a fire in his home near 2330 East and 1700 North just outside Richfield, the Sevier County Sheriff's Office said.
The fire was reported just after 4 a.m. Arriving firefighters "had to fight active flames before they could get to the bedroom and locate (Reynolds) and bring him out," the sheriff's office said in a statement.
Reynolds was taken to Sevier Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said. His wife, 61-year-old Linda Reynolds, was able to escape the house and was taken to the same hospital for treatment, according to the sheriff's office. Her condition was not released.
