A double tanker vehicle hauling gasoline traveling on I-15 southbound near 7200 South exploded causing major freeway closures and traffic delays. UHP says the tanker had 9,000 gallons of gas and 1,000 gallons of diesel. The driver of the truck escaped without injury and told police he believes his brakes caught fire, which led to the blaze. The Utah Air National Guard brought in a specialized, massive fire truck that has the ability to extinguish jetliners on fire and drive right into the flames to spray it down. The freeway is completely closed in all directions and will likely impact interstate traffic throughout the Intermountain West. There are no buildings or people close enough to be in danger.
