Pleasant Grove’s new fire station, currently being built, gained its highest beam last week as firefighters, residents, construction personnel and city leaders held a “topping out” ceremony. According to Fire Chief Dave Thomas, a topping out ceremony — sometimes referred to as a topping off — is a tradition that is held when the final or highest beam is placed during construction. Everyone in attendance signed the beam, which was painted white to set it apart from the others. Then, it was hoisted into place by a crane. This topmost beam will remain uncovered until the construction progress covers it up, according to Thomas. The long-awaited new building is expected to be finished this winter and construction is right on track, he said.
