VIDEO: Salt Lake City Fire Department dedicated a new station making it the second fire station in the country to be built as a Net Zero energy building. Station No. 14 is expected to be certified as LEED Gold because of the building’s exceptional sustainability features. Blalock and Partners designed the two-story, 17,100-square-foot building with a four-bay garage totaling 5,770 square feet. The facility generates its own power from a 110-kilowatt solar array comprised of more than 300 panels. “This fire station is a tangible example of how a sustainable city designs and builds infrastructure,” said Salt Lake City Mayor Jackie Biskupski in a press release. “Station 14 represents what is possible today with existing cost-effective technologies.”
