To Jordan Williams, the No. 1 priority when fighting fires is the safety of firefighters. The second priority is protecting structures like homes, outbuildings, power poles, corrals, yards, pastures and any other type of property. “The fire is going to burn country. That’s what it’s going to do, it’s fire. But success would be nobody is hurt and structures are saved,” Williams said. He is the group supervisor for Division Kilo on the Pole Creek Fire, and this is his seventeenth season as a firefighter. On Thursday, his crews were busy protecting homes and yards in a Covered Bridge community in Spanish Fork Canyon. Residents evacuated earlier in the week as the Pole Creek Fire crept closer through the mountains.
