Fire officials say that thousands of turkeys were killed in a fire that destroyed a poultry house near Shenandoah in Virginia last week.
James Williams, assistant fire chief of the Shenandoah Volunteer Fire Company, says that about 12,500 turkeys that were housed in the building at Pendleton's Farm died when it caught fire on Thursday.
The fire also caused an estimated an estimated $400,000 in damages.
Williams said the fire could have spread to the farm's two other poultry houses, which were also holding thousands of turkeys.
Officials have not yet determined what caused the fire, but they say it doesn't appear to be suspicious.
