A visitation and funeral for Fairfax firefighter Nicole Mittendorff will be held at the McLean Bible Church in Vienna on Thursday. Members of Fairfax Fire, Purcellville Fire, Fairfax Police, Virginia State Police and many other departments arrived to show their respects. Mittendorff's husband, Steve Mittendorff, is a sergeant with Virginia State Police. The funeral service will follow a visitation that is due to start at 1 p.m. Last Thursday 31-year-old Mittendorff's body was found in Shenandoah National Park after she had taken her own life. Online message boards dating back to last December reveal posts in which Mittendorff's name was used in a negative manner, allegedly written by anonymous members of the Fairfax Fire Department. Fairfax Fire Chief Richard Bowers is investigating whether or not cyber bullying from within the department in any way impacted Mittendorff to take her life.
