A fire was reported on Thursday, August 25, 2016, at Spartan Silk Screen. The Salem Fire & EMS Department was called to the business, located at 107 Roanoke Blvd., at approximately 9:50 p.m. According to officials, the business is located about 200 yards from Fire Station One in downtown Salem. Firefighters initially saw smoke coming from the building and when they ran across the street to determine the severity, they found a Spartan Silk Screen worker trying to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher. Firefighters say the worker suffered some minor heat-related injuries, but refused transport to the hospital. When fire units arrived on scene they found heavy fire burning throughout the garage area of the business. Firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading to the main retail area of the store. The Fire Marshal’s Office ruled the fire accidental in nature. The damage estimate has been set at $100,000 with most of the loss in equipment and inventory.
