Even though he's retired, former Harrisonburg Fire Chief Larry Shifflett is still a very busy man. He was recently recognized by the International Association of Fire Chiefs in San Antonio, Texas, for his outstanding service to the community.
He received the Alan Brunacini Fire Service Executive Safety Award, which is presented to those who show a unique commitment to fire service, health and safety.
But that's not all that the former Fire Chief has been up to.
Aside from his 'honey-do' list and projects around the house, he's been making weekly visits to the Public Safety Building to work on his longest running project: the Harrisonburg Fire Department Museum.
The museum holds a special place in Shifflett's heart. There's not a soul in town who loves it more than he does.
