Virginia Beach woman arrested, charged in Newport News apartment fire

A Virginia Beach woman is facing arson charges in Newport News after on October house fire. Firefighters arrived to an apartment fire in the 900 block of Marcus drive on Oct. 28, 2015; just after 9:30 p.m. Crews found heavy smoke coming from the structure. Initially, the crews began an aggressive interior fire-attack; however, due to the volume of fire, the Incident Commander temporarily withdrew the crews and began defensive operations. Shortly after, crews re-entered and completed the primary search. The fire was deemed under control at 9:54 p.m. After several months of investigation, the Newport News Fire Marshal's Office charged 22-year-old Charmaine K. March, of the 5600 block of Londonberry Road in Virginia Beach with one count of arson of an occupied dwelling. March remains in the Newport News City Jail without bond.
