City administrators in Richmond told city council’s Public Safety Committee on Tuesday night that no one was harmed during a roof renovation in late March at Fire Station 22 on Broad Rock Boulevard.
Some had feared crews came into contact with cancer-causing asbestos.
“It’s not over,” said Keith Andes, president of Richmond Firefighters Association, adding that even though Station 22 has been back in service since June 11, there is still a divide between the firefighters working there and the department they serve. “We have a deep gap, and I don’t know if we can repair it,” Andes told 8News.
During a regularly scheduled meeting, city administrators gave the committee a formal report on the project.
“There’s no citations or issues associated with the way the project was done,” said Deputy Chief administrative officer for operations John Buturla.
