Seven fire companies are battling a hay bale fire near Dayton.
Deputy Chief Jeff Michael of Rockingham County Fire and Rescue said emergency crews responded to the 4900 block of Swope Road about 11:15 a.m.
About 90 hay bales are on fire.
Michael said firefighters plan to knock down the bulk of the fire, then use bulldozers to move the bales away from nearby structures.
Crews will then let the fire burn out.
It's unclear what sparked the fire.
In addition to county fire and rescue, firefighters from Bridgewater, Clover Hill, Grottoes, Hose Co. No. 4, Mount Solon and Weyers Cave are on scene.
