The Roanoke fire marshal's office and city police continue to investigate the fire that destroyed a former school maintenance building Sunday morning. So far, they have not revealed the cause.
But on Monday, Carilion Clinic took steps to secure the site.
What was once the maintenance building is now a very large pile of debris. Security will be here at the site to watch over the property. Contractors will work to secure the site with a fence, and make sure there is no environmental damage.
The fire was discovered around 2 a.m. Sunday, and flames were already shooting from the roof when firefighters rolled up. The fire was already so extensive firefighters couldn't get inside the building.
