A Hampton man who allegedly tried to carjack a vehicle and later assaulted a police officer is now facing arson charges. The incidents began shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, when police were called to the first block of Queens Way. Arriving officers met with a 25-year-old victim, who said that while he was parked and sitting in his pickup truck, a man, identified as 59-year-old Paul Cash, approached him and began assaulting him with an expandable baton and stun gun in an attempt to steal the vehicle. After being unable to start the truck, Cash fled on foot. A description of Cash was given out and a short time later, an officer on routine patrol saw a man matching the description in the 100 block of Old Hampton Lane, near the Hampton History Museum.
