A lightning strike did not cause Saturday's fire at the former American of Martinsville furniture facility. Officials from the National Weather Service confirmed to Martinsville Deputy Emergency Manager Bobby Scott that there had been no lightning strikes within the city prior to the fire. The area had been under a severe thunderstorm watch through 9 p.m. Saturday night. Rather than cause the fire, in fact the weather helped get it under control.
