The Charlottesville Fire Department and the Muscular Dystrophy Association, or MDA, plan to kick off the annual Fill the Boot Campaign. Fill the Boot drives began in 1954 to benefit kids and adults with muscular dystrophy. For more than 60 years, firefighters have provided steadfast drives and uncommon caring to help free individuals from the harm of muscle diseases. Hundreds of firefighters will fan out across the city with boots in hand at intersections and store fronts to greet citizens and ask them to make a donation in support of MDA's mission to find treatments and cures for muscle-debilitating diseases.
