It was like Christmas, said members of Adwolfe Volunteer Fire Department earlier this month as they opened an order of new equipment purchased through a federal grant. The Assistance to Firefighters Grant is available through FEMA for departments to upgrade equipment to standards of the National Fire Protection Association, a program that began after 9/11 which the federal government wants every fire department to meet, said Chief Steve Widner. Grants are awarded yearly to fire and EMS agencies across the country.
