Bristol Virginia city officials announced Thursday the upcoming arrival of new breathing apparatus equipment that will replace aging units. Fire Chief Mike Armstong said the over $257,000 required to purchase the items will come from the Federal Emergency Management Agency through their Assistance to Firefighters Grant program. The self-contained unit help provide oxygen to the firefighters under extreme conditions such as entering a house fire or putting out a vehicle fire outside, the chief said. He noted that 45 unit will be acquired through the grant.
