Carroll Baugher loved family.
The chief of the Elkton Emergency Squad held his wife, son and grandson close to his heart. But, he had a second family: every firefighter and rescue squad member in eastern Rockingham County. Now, both families are mourning his loss.
The 57-year-old died unexpectedly at his home Tuesday.
“I don’t know how this place will run without him,” said Capt. Pam Monger, who gathered with dozens of squad members at its station on Blue and Gold Drive Wednesday night. “He was the bolt that held everything together.”
