A pre-dawn fire that destroyed Centenary United Methodist Church in far western Chesterfield County last week has been ruled accidental, although investigators could not determine the exact cause.
“After completing their investigation, fire investigators have ruled out anything suspicious,” said Lt. Jason Elmore, a spokesman for Chesterfield Fire & EMS.
Although the precise cause could not be determined, Elmore said investigators believe the fire started near the front of the church because of an “electrical malfunction.”
