A local firefighter responded to 9/11 terror attacks sixteen years ago. Wes Shifflett, a Rockingham County Assistant Fire Marshal, responded to the Pentagon after a plane crashed into it on September 11th, 2001.
At the time, Shifflett worked at Reagan International Airport.
It was believed a plane had crashed at the end of the runway, however, when crews arrived they discovered the plane had hit the Pentagon. "As a firefighter, you have an adrenaline rush of responding to an incident.
