A Saturday morning house fire claimed the life of a Max Meadows woman, police said.
Firefighters responded to the blaze about 9 a.m. Saturday. The fire destroyed the white frame, two-story home on Peppers Ferry Road, between Hoke and Cleveland streets.
Virginia State Police agents were at the scene Monday to investigate and retrieve the victim from the house. Agent Harry Alderson said the home was unsafe to enter until crews stabilized it Monday.
He did not identify the victim, but said the home belongs to Fred Stowers.
