Firefighters risk their lives when they head into a burning building, but flames aren't the only danger. On Thursday, the Virginia Professional Firefighters Association considered the elevated risk of cancer, during a conference at the Hotel Roanoke.
"First and foremost is to reduce their occupational exposures. And so they want to wear their self-contained breathing apparattus, their SCBA, all throughout fire suppression and afterwards and overhaul.
