If you live in Bristol, Virginia and receive emergency medical services, new faces may show up to care for you. The Bristol, Virginia Fire Department began running an ambulance service Monday.
Three ambulances will now respond to emergency calls within the city of Bristol and hopefully improve response time.
"The life saving crew typically operates two ambulances a day, so we're adding a third. We're really enhancing public safety by doing that," Chief Mike Armstrong said.
Firefighters will now operate an ambulance out of the Lee Street fire station.
"It is a firefighting unit. It does have firefighting equipment on it, so firefighters who ride the unit are cross-trained as firefighters and EMTs and paramedics," Armstrong said.
