The Powhatan County Fire and Rescue Department recently received a national award that recognizes its outstanding efforts in volunteer recruitment and retention. Fire and Rescue Chief Steven Singer was flown in November to attend the International Association of Fire Chiefs’ annual East Coast conference in Clearwater, Florida to receive the award. The Recruitment and Retention Award is sponsored by the Volunteer Fire Insurance Services and the Volunteer and Combination Officers Section of the International Association of Fire Association. It recognizes success and excellence in the retention and recruitment of emergency service organization members. “The review panel felt we are doing some of the best practices in the country in terms of recruitment and retention and highlighted our programs to everyone who attended the conference,” Singer said. He added that the department is humbled to receive such an award and glad everyone’s hard work and effort are paying off.
