A fire which damaged a home and displaced seven people was caused by a child playing with a lighter, a fire official said on Monday.
Firefighters responded to the home on Hook Lane in Staunton on Sunday morning.
The fire started in a bedroom on the second floor of the home. Flames spread to the attic and the first floor sustained water damage.
"We had a majority of the fire knocked down in the first five minutes," said Perry Weller, the Deputy Chief of Administration and city fire marshal. "Then we were on scene [...] making sure there wasn't any hidden fire up in the attic or in the walls."
A woman was taken to the hospital for treatment and a cat died in the fire, according to Staunton Fire & Rescue.
