Multiple fire crews battled a massive fire in Petersburg Tuesday morning. Witnesses say that the fire sparked around 5 a.m. at a warehouse located at 424 High Street near Lafayette Street. 8News later learned the warehouse is the old Seward Luggage Factory, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Witnesses told 8News the fire then spread across the street to the High Street Lofts through a bridge that connects the two buildings. A resident of High Street Lofts told 8News she woke up around 6 a.m. to an orange sky and chaos, with dogs barking and people screaming. She grabbed a blanket and ran out with her son.
