Staffing limitations have put the Winchester Fire and Rescue Department in a position where some emergency vehicles are being dispatched with only a driver.
Chief Allen Baldwin admits this is a concern, but said his department is using its personnel the best way possible to help ensure the safety of local residents.
Winchester is allowed 75 paid personnel in Fire and Rescue, with 63 certified to answer emergency calls from the city’s four fire and rescue stations and 12 who have administrative, office or support positions.
Currently, there are four vacancies on the emergency response side, but Baldwin said two of those spots are in the process of being filled.
