Fire crews spent the afternoon Tuesday fighting a brush fire in Altavista. According to Campbell County Fire Marshal Randall Johnson, just before 2 p.m. the Altavista Fire Company, Virginia Department of Forest and Campbell County Public Safety were dispatched to Tardy Mountain Road for heavy smoke in the area. When they arrived in the 3700 block of Tardy Mountain Road, they discovered a brush fire on the AEP power line right of way. Johnson said the fire was about 3 acres in size and appeared to be caused by the main transmission line being down in the area.
