James City-Bruton volunteer firefighters extinguished a junkyard fire Wednesday near Two Drummers Smokehouse in Toano. Firefighters responded to the James City County Recycling Center at 10:04 a.m., according to James City-Bruton Volunteer Fire Department Acting Fire Chief Phillip Murdock. Upon arrival, firefighters faced a “large amount of fire” on a 30-foot-tall pile of junked cars that were going to be recycled, Murdock said. No one was injured by the blaze, according to Murdock. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Four fire engines, four tanker trucks and two medics helped fight the fire, according to Murdock. At 11:01 a.m., the fire was extinguished.
