“Get into position!” Shouted firefighter Kevin Travers, just before he led a training session.
Travers works as an instructor at the Arlington County Fire Training Academy. He spent Thursday morning training what could be the next generation of female firefighters.
“If you can do the job, you can do the job,” he said. “I think that’s awesome. It doesn’t matter if you’re male, female, black, or white.” “Nice job!” Said 17-year-old Sierra Hawkins as she high-fived a fellow camper.
Hawkins has dreamt of becoming a firefighter since she was a little girl.
“My parents are in the fire department, so I’ve grown up around a fire station my whole life,” she said, smiling.
