He's spent four decades saving homes and lives, but even John Manspile is prone to a good surprise. "I have to say, they got me good today," Manspile said.
After forty years of serving Buchanan as a volunteer firefighter, Manspile was honored on Friday by those closest to him.
"I got to see him stand beside people, hold their hand and tell them everything's going to be OK because the fire department is there," Buchanan Fire Chief Craig Bryant said. "That's why he's my hero."
"Hero" is a word that gets thrown around a lot, but Manspile embraces his role as a leader in his community.
"I have this demeanor that just calms them down," Manspile said.
