A man has died after he fell into a creek near Cedars Court in Charlottesville on Sunday, according to city police. The man was a resident of the Cedars Healthcare Center, which is owned by the Ohio-based CommuniCare Family of Companies. Fred Stratmann, a spokesman with CommuniCare, said the man was a resident of the Cedars and that their policy for residents’ leaving depends on their level of acuity. “Everyone has the right to come and go as they please, and this resident in particular had a history of signing themselves out of the facility on a leave of absence without any incident,” he said. “There was certainly nothing in his history or his diagnosis to indicate that the events of today would happen.”
