Officials: Home significantly damaged after fire in Amherst County

Amherst County dispatch said a home was fully engulfed in flames in Amherst County Monday morning. Police the call came in at around 6:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Kentmoor Farm Road. According to police, a man was outside the home working on his car and his mother was inside when they heard cracking and popping sounds. A dog and hamster were inside at the time of the fire. They were unharmed. Officials said the home was significantly damaged. The Red Cross is assisting.
