On July 1, Clarke County will begin billing patients who receive emergency medical services treatment on scene but decline transportation via ambulance to the emergency room, which is referred to as “treated not transported.”
The county also will begin billing for ambulance services not covered by a patient’s insurance.
By collecting a flat $150 for each “treated not transported” emergency call as well as patient-balance billing, the county anticipates an additional $80,000 in revenue per year, which would provide financial support to the county’s three volunteer fire companies.
The county’s policy is to use 100 percent of these funds to support emergency medical services.
